Since you haven’t been formally introduced, this is Carlin. He’s my partner in crime. This is him with a girlfriend of his, Darby. You’ve seen him one other time on this site but I’ve never gone into detail about him.
Carlin came from the Sacramento County Animal Shelter on Bradshaw Road. He’s a three-year-old pit bull and already had a knee surgery on his back left leg.
(Side note: I’m not sure exactly what breed of bully Carlin is. He looks like an American Staffordshire for the most part, but I gotta believe he has some Shar Pei in him–look at the wrinkles on his face. At some point I will spring for the DNA test so I will know for sure, but for now we’ll just call him a “Pibble”.)
Now it appears Carlin’s right hind leg needs surgery. Yippee. Couldn’t it have at least waited until I paid the initial operation off? No? Fine. I love him too much to keep him in pain.
The procedure is fairly common for pit bulls, who apparently blow out their cranial cruciate ligaments with some frequency. The canine’s CCL is similar to a human’s anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) which helps prevents the shin bone from sliding out in front of the thigh bone.
Specifics about Carlin’s surgery will be saved for a later post. For now I just wanted to fill you in about my best guy dog and check on any readers out there who may have a similar experience.
Who else out there has a pibble who blows out his knees?
